Why the Majority of Content We Consume Will be Video

Video has emerged as the dominant form of content online. Are you ready to engage your audience through this exciting medium?

Before the Internet, I remember getting much of my news and information through print.

Of course, there was also radio and television, but being the information junkie that I am, I would spend tons of time at Barnes & Noble. If I wanted the latest on current events I’d read Time Magazine or Newsweek. For health tips, I’d grab a copy of Men’s Health or Prevention. And, of course, there was always Sports Illustrated to feed the football fan in me. Riding the subway to work back in the 90’s and early 00’s, you’d see people reading the New York Times, paper unfolded, engulfing their bodies.

Reading Isn't What it Used to Be

However, over the years content consumption has drastically changed.

The rise of the desktop computer, the Internet and search engines has altered the way we view content. Instead of going to a public library, you can consume content from the comfort of your own home. At the end of 2013, the number of mobile devices outnumbered the population of the earth. Mobile technology has given us the ability to view content on demand. Search engines have made a vast amount of content available to us.

Today, Content Comes From Anywhere

We no longer have dominant destination sites that we go to but we quickly scan a number of sites when we’re looking for information. Social media enables people to share content quickly with their family and friends. Sharing has evolved into a powerful means of endorsement. People can also interact in real time, swapping opinions and content. And mobile apps enable us to have unique experiences that print could never provide.

Advancements in digital technology and the changing consumption patterns of people have led to a rise in video usage on all sectors of the Internet.

The Emergence of Video

Advancements in digital technology and the changing consumption patterns of people have led to a rise in video usage on all sectors of the Internet. According to Cisco, in 2017, video accounted for 69% of all consumer Internet traffic. It's now 2021 and that number has risen significantly. The good news for your socially minded business or non-profit is that the ability to produce video is within reach. Social media platforms like Vine, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, Vimeo and, of course, YouTube offer unprecedented opportunities to create & share video content.

Got Video?

Consider adding video to your brand’s content strategy. Tell your brand’s story. Show the impact your non-profit is having on people’s lives. Let others see how your social enterprise is contributing to making our world a better place. Capture your programs in action, individual testimonials, "Day in the Life" staff profiles, community feedback, live interviews from a conference or fundraising event. The only limit is your imagination!

The Future Will Be Televised

Our friends, NBT, used a series of videos at the center of a health awareness campaign for the city of New Brunswick, NJ. In addition to writing about healthier lifestyle options, videos were utilized to show the city’s resources and inspire residents to take advantage of them. There are many, many ways for you to use video. Capture it, share with the world and engage your audience!

The future will be presented on video!
